While you may easily handle constipation, your baby may not. As your baby finds it hard to poop, he also experiences pain and discomfort making the situation an ordeal for him.

Causes of Baby Constipation

As a parent, you certainly want to save your baby from the ordeal. Before you can do that, you will have to know and find out what is causing him the baby constipation. Several factors can bring about the condition like:

  • The switch from breast to formula milk – babies who drink breast milk hardly gets the constipation blues. Switching the milk from breast to formula can trigger pooping difficulties.

Babies are not able to digest formula milk completely as they do with breast milk. This leaves traces of formula milk or residue in their colon. As babies drink their formula milk, residues accumulate, dry up, and become hard stool difficult for babies to pass.

  • Change from breast/formula milk to solid food – at age four (4) to six (6) months, parents can introduce solid food to their babies. This change in their diet can cause babies to have trouble in pooping such as emptying their bowel.

  • Congenital Defects – there are times when babies are born with deficiencies or deformities such as that of bowel obstruction or abnormalities in the intestines. The result is constipation or inability of babies to eliminate their wastes or pass stool normally and regularly.

Treatment of Baby Constipation

Ruling out congenital abnormalities, the most effective treatment to get rid of baby constipation blues is to modify the diet, as follows:

  • You may administer the prune juice treatment for baby constipation. Mix an ounce of prune juice to four (4) ounces of water and have your baby drink the mixture. Some pediatricians actually recommend prune juice to treat constipation in babies.

  • You may also want to switch your baby’s formula milk, better yet continue, or start to breastfeed your baby.

This is how you can get rid of baby constipation.
